The Wine: Carica’s 2006 “Kick Ranch” Syrah is rich and intense. It exhibits vibrant flavors of blackberry and black cherry fruits, followed by notes of roasted meat and bacon fat characteristic of the Northern Rhone’s finest wines. Spicy and complex, this Syrah has a velvety deep persistent finish with accents of pepper and dark chocolate and smoke. Abundant soft tannins make this wine approachable early but also predict substantial aging potential.
This is a wine of balance, sophistication and finesse, which, although delicious by itself, will be an elegant accompaniment to fine cuisine. Consider pairing it with lamb shanks, osso bucco, roasted or grilled meats, game or rich stews.
The Reviews: Wine Spectator 93 Points : “Beautifully crafted, pure and focused, this is full-bodied, offering juicy, vivid blackberry and wild berry fruit, with shades of plum and black cherry that coat the palate. Long and supple on the finish. Drink now through 2014.”
The Vineyard: Kick Ranch has evolved from Dick Keenan and Kathy McNamara’s vision to develop a premier vineyard in Rincon Valley, north east of Santa Rosa, California. Using sustainable viticulture practices, this 41 acre vineyard produces outstanding Sauvignon Blanc grapes, as well as highly sought-after Rhone varietals including Syrah and Petite Sirah.
